CREATURE D’OMBRA E TEMPESTA

SHADOW AND STORM CREATURES

Exhibition by Tony Sandoval created for ARF! Festival, in Mattatoio ROMA 2025

A major exhibition in Rome celebrates the visionary talent of Mexican artist Tony Sandoval, whose worlds balance darkness and purity.

On display are original works created with direct color, refined inks, and evocative pencils, tracing the key stages of his career: from the dreamlike watercolors of Watersnakes to the intense inks of Doomboy and Mille Tempeste, and the graphite drawings of La città dei dragoni.

The show includes rare cover art from Volage and Oscuro en Rosa, along with unpublished sketches inspired by Flemish master Hieronymus Bosch. Also featured are new color pieces from the Organica series, where Sandoval explores a realm of life, nature, and metamorphosis filled with female figures, hybrid creatures, and landscapes suspended between dream and nightmare.

Through action scenes, impossible loves, and haunting beings, Sandoval’s magic comes alive on paper.

The works—published in Italy by Tunué—arrive at ARF! thanks to the collaboration with Galerie Daniel Maghen (Paris), offering Roman audiences a chance to experience his extraordinary technique and atmospheric, dreamlike worlds.
