Metamorphoses: A Contemporary Reimagining of Ovid’s Myths
Metamorphoses is an illustration and comics project inviting selected artists to freely reinterpret myths from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Completed in 8 AD, Ovid’s epic Latin poem immortalized countless Greek and Roman myths.
The BOOK features 16 artists, each creating a self-contained comic strip and an illustration inspired by a chosen myth. While the mythic source is clearly referenced, the stories may be fragments or creative variations—set in historical, contemporary, or fantastical contexts. The project reimagines ancient texts as fresh, poetic, comic, surreal, ominous, or irreverent works. Expect tales of lustful gods, elusive nymphs, robots, forests, urban skylines, selfie-takers, beasts, and hybrids—all swirling in the mythic cauldron of Squame!
The comics and illustrations are printed as double-sided posters and collected in a full-color anthology.
Metamorphoses is designed to evolve over time, with each new EXHIBITION expanding the original lineup of 16 artists to include new contributors.
